Get to the heart of the matter - literally.
Designed for those with a basic existing knowledge, this engaging and practical course is led by an experienced paramedic with years of frontline, teaching, and assessment expertise.
The session begins with a hands-on dissection of a lamb’s heart, offering a powerful visual and tactile way to explore cardiac anatomy and physiology. From there, learners delve deeper into how the heart functions, gaining a clearer understanding of blood pressure regulation through practical exercises using both manual and electronic blood pressure equipment. ECG lead placement is covered in detail, with a focus on accuracy and clinical relevance, followed by rhythm analysis and interpretation.
Rather than relying on pattern recognition alone, this course is designed to shift learners toward a deeper, physiology-driven approach to ECG interpretation. You'll revisit and reinforce common cardiac rhythms, while also developing the confidence to analyse new or unfamiliar rhythms by understanding the underlying mechanics of the heart.
By the end of the course, you’ll leave with a stronger clinical foundation, improved practical skills, and a Castleford Training Solutions Certificate of Attendance.

From airway to alveoli—follow the journey of every breath.
Led by an experienced paramedic educator, Understanding Breathing is an immersive and practical course designed to bring the respiratory system to life—literally. Just like our highly-rated Understanding ECGs courses, this session features a dissection element, where learners get hands-on with a lamb’s pluck (lungs, trachea, and heart) to explore the mechanics of breathing in real time.
This unique experience offers an in-depth, up-close view of the lower airway and lungs, helping participants truly grasp how air travels into the body, how oxygen is extracted, and how blood becomes oxygenated before circulating through the system. It’s a powerful way to visualise and understand the anatomy and physiology of breathing beyond the textbook.
Following the dissection, the course moves into a focused exploration of the airway’s key components, their roles within the respiratory system, and how disruptions at any level can impact ventilation and oxygenation.
The second half of the course is a comprehensive “Airway Management & Ventilation Masterclass,” covering the stepwise approach to airway management up to supraglottic airway (SGA) use. You’ll dive into practical strategies, troubleshooting techniques, and ventilation theory—learning how to optimise airway care in a variety of settings.
Whether you’re a prehospital provider, educator, or clinician working in emergency care, this course offers a rich blend of theory, anatomy, and practical skill-building—all designed to deepen your understanding of one of the body’s most vital systems.

Understanding Adult & Paediatric Resuscitation is a two-day, in-depth Immediate Life Support (ILS)-level course designed to go far beyond ticking a box. This paramedic-led programme blends deep clinical understanding with highly practical, hands-on learning to give you the tools, knowledge, and confidence to respond effectively in critical life-or-death situations.
Day One: The Science, the Strategy, the Skillset
Your journey begins with a thorough exploration of Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA)—from its pathophysiology and epidemiology to the aetiologies and reversible causes that can make the difference between life and loss. You'll build a solid foundation in systemic responses to hypoxia, cellular damage, and the trauma triad, helping you understand not just what to do, but why every second matters.
From there, you’ll gain in-depth knowledge of vital signs monitoring, including how to interpret SpO₂ plethysmography, capnography waveforms, and EtCO₂ trends, alongside how to identify potential inaccuracies in readings. You’ll practise a structured ABCDE primary survey, designed in line with Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK) guidance, with a focus on early recognition and rapid intervention for critically unwell patients.
Expect plenty of practical exposure to essential equipment too—defibrillators (automatic and manual where in scope), BVMs, monitoring equipment, airway adjuncts, and more. You’ll cover how to safely use, check, decontaminate, and troubleshoot each item in line with current best practices.
And because real-world cardiac arrests don’t happen in ideal environments, we go beyond the clinical and into the human factors that influence performance. Think: leadership under pressure, the impact of fatigue, managing family members and bystanders, clear team communication, and effective post-event debriefing.
Day Two: Simulation, Leadership & Assessment
Day two is all about action. Under the guidance of experienced paramedic educators, you’ll take the lead in realistic arrest simulations that put your learning to the test. You’ll run resuscitations from the moment you arrive on scene—delegating roles, applying the ILS algorithm, managing the airway, delivering ventilations via BVM, and making fast, informed decisions on defibrillation, rhythm recognition, and reversible causes. We also cover paediatric resuscitation (P-ILS) in depth, including anatomical differences, modified CPR ratios, airway techniques, and defibrillation strategies specific to children—ensuring you’re ready to act, whatever the age of your patient.
You'll engage with discussions around decision-making and ethics, including when to start, stop, or escalate a resuscitation attempt, DNACPRs, RESPECT forms, and recognition of injuries or presentations incompatible with life. The day finishes with practical and knowledge-based assessments, ensuring you’re ready to apply your learning confidently in real-life cardiac emergencies.
