For the love of blogs - episode 6

Well, it is that time again to “blog on” – get it…... blog on……?? oh never mind, clearly my talent is wasted here. You know you always enjoy reading these very witty and, at times, informative posts!!! Who knows you may learn something too but do not sue me if you do not, as I have hungry children and a crazy labrador to feed, and trust me neither of these come cheap.

Right down to business and to inform all you lovely readers what has been happening over the last few weeks. At the end of last month Harry, our lecturing Paramedic, delivered one of our new courses Understanding ECGs Pt 2 for the first time, to a select number of returning customers who had attended the first one in this series. This course was more in-depth than the first one and looked at cardiac conduction processes and pathways as well as how to interpret what is a normal ECG, then moving on to arrhythmias. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the course and there is talk about a third and final one to this series so watch out for more information.

Shaun our trainer delivered another successful First Response in Emergency Care Level 3 course (FREC 3) at our training room in Leeds. There was yet another Oscar-winning performance from Moi as part of the catastrophic bleed section which resulted in me again looking like a Umpa Lumpa for days afterward – the things I must do in the name of art!!!

We crossed the Pennines to Lancashire to deliver a Basic Life Support course followed by our Understanding Autism course to an incredibly good returning customer of ours. There were plenty of laughs along the way (Shaun pretending to be a dog – please do not ask) and playing charades (I know this is actual work) but hopefully a better understanding for the attendees on the diverse ways to help communicate with a person living with this disability.

Shaun has also been busy working on his new masterpiece in the form of his book to complement his FREC 3 training course. This book is turning into ‘War & Peace’ and what started as a small project has now turned into over forty pages of detailed information. There have been many swear words along the way, and he is looking balder than usual, but I doubt JK Rowling will have anything to fear.

We also found the time to provide medical cover for several events including one held in Millenium Square, Leeds. I must be honest this was one gig I was so looking forward to, namely because my favourite band (Nothing But Thieves – I am such a rock chick) was playing, I mean what could be better than being there and getting paid as well, I was an incredibly happy bunny by the end of the night.

Onto this week highlighted course and this is a new one we are working on called Understanding Life Saving Medications. This one-day course is aimed at an introduction to all life-saving medications covered in Safe Administration of Life-Saving Medication (SALM). It is also a good refresher for those who already have the SALM qualification but due to the fact this course does not require any further requalification, this would be ideal as a refresher. Harry is delivering this course and it will be a full day of learning as there is a lot of content to cover but it will also be an informative one. The medications discussed are Adrenaline, Aspirin, Chlorphenamine, Glyceryl Trinitrate, Hydrocortisone, Ipratropium Bromide, Naloxone Hydrochloride, and Salbutamol as well as Buccal Midazolam. This course allows every individual to have the opportunity to calculate dosages, and how to draw up and administer the above medications. This course includes a certificate of attendance, and the usual legendary CTS snacks, and counts towards CPD hours. More information will follow regarding dates and cost so keep an eye out for further updates.

Right, it is now time for my medication oh wait I cannot as I need to finish this medical shift first before I go back to the old people’s home - at least I am guaranteed a rest there!!!

Adios amigos!

Jen
